The numbers that appear below the name of each background are the screen resolutions (or "sizes") that particular image is available in. For best results, the resolution you choose should match the resolution of the device you're going to use the background on, whether it be a monitor, a laptop, or otherwise. If you don't know what your screen resolution is, continue on to the next question below.

When choosing a background, you should pick the resolution that matches the device you plan to display it on, whether it be a monitor, a laptop, or otherwise.
If you are using a Mac...
A Mac requires that there be a separate image for each monitor. Choose one "Single Screen" background for each screen that you have connected at the appropriate resolution for each.

If you would simply like to apply an image you find on this site as your new desktop background, right click on the image and, if you are using Internet Explorer, choose "Set as Background" or, if you are using Mozilla Firefox, choose "Set As Desktop Background..."
Alternatively, if you would like to save a background for later use, browse to the background you would like to save and do the following:
- If you are using Internet Explorer, right click on the image and choose "Save Picture As..." or, if you are using Mozilla Firefox, choose "Save Image As..."
- Once you have done this, browse to a folder on your computer that you would like to save the image in and click save. Remember where you store it though, because you'll need to find it again to set it as your desktop wallpaper.

Some backgrounds aren't available for larger screen resolutions simply because the original imagery from which they are derived is not large enough. If a low resolution background is applied to a screen that is at a high resolution, the results vary. More often than not though, the image is stretched and becomes pixilated, which usually isn't a pretty sight.
Other backgrounds aren't available because the original imagery's aspect ratio is vastly different. Cropping the image isn't always possible because there may not be enough detail to fill the desired resolution. Cropping the image to fit a certain aspect ratio may also cut out important details in the picture.

Yes! They are, however, for personal use only, and may not be duplicated in any fashion. What's personal use? It simply means that whatever you use the background for isn't earning you any money, either directly or indirectly.
